As the frozen winters of Baltistan melt away, the Baltistan Spring Festival bursts forth to celebrate life, resilience, and the return of warmth. Taking place in Skardu and surrounding villages, this festival marks the start of agricultural activities and is steeped in Balti traditions.
Colorful sports like Tug of War, archery competitions, yak polo, and stone-lifting contests fill the valleys with energy. Folk bands play the haunting melodies of the Surna and Daman, while women in traditional dress prepare springtime dishes like Mamtu and Balay. Apricot blossoms provide a magical backdrop to the festivities.
